Three Workers Hurt in Building Collapse
Three construction workers were injured when the modular building they were working on collapsed. According to the New Jersey Herald, about 50 employees were working on the site when part of the building fell. Considering the number of workers on site, having only three injuries is fortunate.
The accident happened at about 3:50 p.m. on Feb. 26. The building was a modular, permanent structure from NRB USA. The company is based in Ephrata.
Two workers were treated and released while the third was still being evaluated.
It isn’t unusual for construction injuries to seem minor at the time. The fact that two of the three workers were treated and released doesn’t necessarily mean they didn’t sustain serious injuries. Much in the same way car accident injuries often don’t manifest themselves until the day after the car accident, construction accident injuries can sometimes do the same thing.
More often than not, however, the injuries are immediately apparent.
When you are involved in a construction accident, you usually know whether or not you have sustained injuries serious enough to warrant medical attention. Although some injuries can worsen with time, broken bones and those injuries involving broken skin are hard to miss.
This isn’t to say workers always seek medical attention immediately following an accident. Many think if they can just rest, apply some immediate first aid and take the afternoon off, they will be okay. But waiting and seeing isn’t always conducive to healing. This is why many employers immediately send you to the doctor after a construction accident, regardless of how minor you think your injuries are.
If you’ve been hurt enough to require a doctor’s visit or a trip to the hospital, you could be entitled to additional compensation above and beyond what’s covered by worker’s compensation. The New York and New Jersey construction accident lawyers of Ginarte may be able to help.
